10. Past simple - 1

 

① Form

I / You / We / They	opened / lived / tried.
He / She / It

 

② spelling rules

* 대부분의 동사 끝부분에 ed를 붙인다.

work → worked, wish → wished, fill → filled

* e로 끝나는 동사 끝부분에 d를 붙인다.

smile → smiled, like → liked, date → dated, close → closed

* 자음 + y로 끝나는 동사는 끝부분에 y를 i로 고치고 ed를 붙인다.

study → studied, carry → carried

* 1모음과 2자음으로 끝나는 동사는 끝부분에 자음 하나 더 붙이고 ed

stop → stopped, drop → dropped, fit → fitted, tap → tapped

 

③ 불규칙 변화 동사

* Many common verbs have irregular past forms.

go → went, do → did, see → saw, have → had, take → took

I / You / We / They	went to the cinema.
He / She / It

 

* The verb to be has two past simple forms.

I / He / She / It	was	at school yesterday.
You / We / They	were

 

④ Use

* I liked the film, it was so exciting!

* He studied hard and passed the exam.

* He bought two bars of chocolate and gave one to his friend.

* She talked to her sister.

* Neil Armstrong was the first man to land on the moon.

* The dog ate my breakfast!

 

※ 불규칙 동사는 외워야 함.
